Philadelphia Police Enlist Private Security Cameras (NPR)

A recent NPR news story covers a Philadelphia police program which involves voluntary registration of security cameras for use a crime fighting tool. By having businesses and individuals register their security cameras with the police dept., police will know where they can go to obtain video surveillance footage in and around an area where a crime has been committed to help them gather evidence and clues. Such a database of security cameras throughout various locations in the city will make it easier to acquire video surveillance from multiple security camera sources.

Flash Mob Epidemic Hits U.S.

A flash mob is an organized gathering of many people in a particular place in a short time using text messaging or social media sites such as Facebook or Twitter to send invitations out to participants, telling them where and when to gather. Flash mobs started out (a couple years ago) innocently enough with the participants performing seemingly impromptu dance routines or musical performances in public places such as grocery stores, libraries etc to raise public awareness on issues, or as a unique expression or just as a prank
