Although property crime rates are on the decline, this decline may be due to the abandonment of passive property protection to a more hands-on approach through the installation of home and business security systems. The best camera security system is one that not only monitors the interior of your property, but also the exterior of your home or business. Safeguarding your property starts by installing a security system capable of withstanding the elements, thus waterproof surveillance cameras are the ideal choice for a fully functioning camera security system.

What are Waterproof Surveillance Cameras?

Waterproof surveillance cameras are just that, cameras designed to withstand a constant onslaught of water from rain, snow or hail. While it may seem that all outdoor security cameras would be waterproof, this is not the case. Far too many surveillance systems are touted as being “ideal for outdoor use,” but falter after the first intense rainstorm.

Waterproof surveillance cameras are manufactured to safeguard its inner computer chips and camera lenses from the elements. This is typically accomplished by housing the camera in a waterproof casing. During the manufacturing process, the casing is sealed shut through a series of steps to ensure all seams are tightly closed and resilient from wear-and-tear due to harsh outdoor conditions.

Types of Waterproof Surveillance Cameras

The waterproof surveillance camera industry is as populated with camera models as indoor surveillance cameras. There are a variety of camera shapes, sizes and configurations available to property owners, and although each camera model features a specific benefit not every camera is ideal for every buyer.

Perhaps the most well-known waterproof surveillance camera system are the dome cameras. These camera types are designed to not only protect the interior computer chips from water damage, but also allow users to monitor a wider viewing area. Dome surveillance cameras offer a near 360-degree viewing area. Moreover, dome waterproof surveillance cameras may be outfitted with vandalism resistant casings to ward off not only the weather, but also potential thieves.

The bullet-style waterproof surveillance camera is another popular choice among property owners as it provides similar recording capabilities as its dome counterparts without the large price tag. Bullet surveillance cameras are most well-known for their practicality in outdoor use as its design is more apparent to onlookers. Therefore, merely its presence may be enough to ward off potential criminals.

Installation and Cost

Although waterproof surveillance cameras are available in wireless designs, there are several drawbacks to the wireless options. The most notable of these disadvantages is the possibility of image transmission being intercepted either intentionally or by accident. Wireless waterproof surveillance cameras may also experience a weakened signal during strong thunderstorms; however, due to its battery operated design, these cameras will continue to operate even during power blackouts.

Wired waterproof surveillance cameras are the gold-standard among property monitoring as these cameras are designed to securely transmit images and maintain strong signal strength even during the worst thunderstorm.

When determining the best waterproof surveillance camera system for your property, you must consider the installation process and cost. Installing a wireless waterproof surveillance camera system is by far the simplest and most cost-effective method. While hardwiring a surveillance cameras to your property is a more invasive and costly procedure, its benefits may outweigh the drawbacks.

The cost for waterproof surveillance cameras is similar to the cost of other surveillance cameras. Price is primarily based on the features, size and configuration of the camera. For low-end waterproof surveillance cameras, expect to spend anywhere from $70 to $150 per camera. More advanced waterproof surveillance cameras range anywhere from $200 to over $500 per camera.

Security cameras are extremely beneficial to anyone who is worried about the safety of their home. Once they are installed you will be able to keep an eye on your home or a child to be able to monitor what is going on at your home when you are not there. Security cameras can be purchased in either a wired or a wireless model, which will give you the freedom and flexibility to be able to choose which one is going to work the best for you.

The wireless security cameras are a lot easier to install and there are no limits on how far away you will be able to place your monitors and cameras. However, there can be issues with interference from other signals, so you need to keep that in mind when making your purchase. Wired security systems are going to need a lot more work to perform the installation, but you are not going to have the worries about anything interfering with your signals. Either way that you decide to go, you need to make sure that you are choosing a camera that is meant to be used in the outdoor environments.

1. Choose the location for your security camera that is going to give you the perfect view of everything that is going on around you. You need to decide whether you want your camera to be hidden out of the way or in plain view. If you are deciding to utilize a wired security system, this can prove to be more difficult to incorporate a hidden camera on your premises.

2. Turn your cameras on and hold them in the position that you are planning on locating them and see if they are going to cover what you are looking for. If you plan to use a wired security camera system, you need to make sure that your cables are going to be long enough to allow you to connect everything properly. Your monitor and cameras are going to have to be within a specified range of each other to prevent any complications. Go by what the manufacturer’s instructions specify for proper placement of your cameras.

3. Drill your holes in order to be able to mount all of the brackets for your camera in your desired locations. It doesn’t matter where your camera is located because you are going to need brackets to make sure it is held securely in place.

4. Using your screwdriver you need to attach all of the brackets into place securely. They need to be stable enough to be able to support the camera that you are going to be mounting to prevent any complications.

5. Now is the time to mount your cameras on to your various brackets. Go through everything and make sure that it is all tightened securely.

6. Choose the location for placement of your monitor. When you are using a wireless security camera system you are done and all you need to do now is test everything out and make sure that it is working properly. Your installation is complete.

You will have the peace of mind and security that you have been looking for now that your security system is up and running. There will be nothing to worry about because the camera will be able to see everything that is going on around your home in no time at all. Enjoy being able to relax in the comfort of your own home and knowing that you are going to be taken care of. It doesn’t matter if you are at home or away because the security camera system will be able to do the job for you in keeping an eye on your home at all times.

Security in your own home is vital to just about anyone around the world today. Homeowners want to make sure that their family is going to be protected from any harm that may try to come into their home. You need to compare multiple security systems to determine which one is going to work the best for your needs and make sure that you are getting the best value around. Here are a few tips that you can implement to make sure that you are getting the best deal around on your security system.

Comparing Your Security System Options

• Read what other customers have to say about the product that you are interested in. You will normally be able to find out what other customers are saying by checking out the various web sites for the products or on the manufacturer web site. When you are reading through the reviews you need to pay careful attention to how easy they thought the system was to operate and install.

• See if you can find any reviews from the professionals and see what they think about the products that you are looking at. Compare the expert’s reviews with that of the typical consumer and see what the differences are between them. You will be able to find reviews from experts in a variety of places, including: magazines and expert review websites. Consumer’s Digest can offer a great resource for reviewing products, such as a home security system.

• Go through the list of potential security systems and sort them through based upon how many sensors you are going to need around your home. When you are deciding which system to purchase you need to make sure that you are getting the right options for your specific needs. There are some home security systems that are only capable of covering the front and back doors; however, there are some that are able to cover windows or other entry points around the home. Make sure that you choose a security system that is going to be able to cover every possible entrance point within your home.

• List your security systems by how many sensors are going to come with the system right from the start. This will help to narrow down your list of choices even more based upon your specific needs. Make notes of the numbers so that you can refer back to them at a later point in time.

• Look at the features that the keypad has to offer in each one of the systems that you are looking at. You should determine how easy it will be for you to be able to operate the system in a time of crisis or emergency.

• Compare what all of the other features are and make yourself a list for easy comparison. Make notations of whether or not the system includes smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. There are a few features that are vital for the operation of your security system.

• Look at the reputation of the company that you are going to have install your security system in your home. Make sure that they are reputable and have an upstanding reputation that precedes them. Are they going to be able to perform a repair if needed down the road? What all are they going to be able to offer you in terms of service on the system? How many years have they been in business? What are their customers saying about them? These are just a few of the things that you need to look at when you are making the decision on which company should come to your home and install your security system.

• In order to make the final decision about which system to purchase for your home, you need to weigh all of the different pros and cons of each system that you have looked at. This will help you decide which one is going to be the best option for you to choose from and bring to your home.

Regardless of how you choose your security system, the thing that you need to remember is that you are getting something that is going to work for your needs. You don’t want to miss out on anything that you may need in the long run just to try and save a few bucks in the upfront cost of your new security system. In the end it will be a lot more hassle and headache.

There are several different commercial security devices available.

The Main Door

Security for the main door for a business often needs to include a way to let someone in and keep others out. The easiest of these systems is a talk set with a monitor. That way you can let someone into the office with a minimum amount of effort.

Look for a headset that can be easily installed. The fewer the number of wires needed by the system the fewer things that can wrong. Look for a hands free design as they are the most hassle free. Many choices exist in the design so look for one that will compliment the exterior and interior of the building.

The main door should also have a wide-angle camera with pan, tilt and zoom that automatically turns on when someone appears at the door. The camera should have the ability to be manually remotely adjusted for conditions such as darkness or bright sunlight. The more memory the camera has the more useful the camera will be should something go wrong.

Secondary Entrances

Security for secondary doors needs to include a way to let authorized users in and alert security to unauthorized users trying to access the facility. These systems should integrate into the main security system using existing network infrastructure with little hassle.

Look for a system that allows authorized users to scan a card to gain access to that part of the building. The system should have the ability to communicate with security. These security systems offer the business owner the ability to make emergency announcements. The system should be programmable for many different scenarios such as illegal entry and informing the visitor where the main entrance is located. The system should be equipped with a wide-angle camera just like at the main door.

Office Communication

The commercial security system needs to allow employees to communicate between rooms and even between buildings. It should allow each employee to be tracked should the need arise. These systems should allow doors to be locked and unlocked from master stations located throughout the building.

Internal Security

The system should also be equipped to control who can enter certain areas of the business. The easiest way is to issue a security card to an employee which they simply swipe for access to a controlled area. These areas should be equipped with an intercom where instructions can be given for individuals who do not have the security card. The system should have the ability to give different messages based on time of day, and activities within the building.

Parking

The commercial security system should also control who has access to the building’s parking area. These commercial security devices need to have cameras that can save images, are adjustable from a remote location and allow the facility to be locked down quickly should the need arise. Each area should be connected to the main security area via an intercom.

Commercial security devices need to be individualized to each business. Look for systems that can be easily integrated. At a minimum each location should have an intercom that connects to a centralized location and a remote controllable camera.

Therefore, it is important for your home to be protected by home security systems equipment. This equipment can be divided into four categories. They are wireless monitored home security systems, wireless unmonitored home security systems, hard-wired monitored security systems and hard-wired unmonitored security systems. Picking the right one for your home depends on your individual circumstances. The homeowner needs to carefully weigh his options before making an informed decision. After all, your life and the lives of those you love may depend on this system.

The best system for most people is a wireless monitored home security system. The major advantage of this plan is that there is no need for the electricity or the phone lines to be working. The system will work independently. The home security systems equipment will alert a security company and the police. These systems often have a wide-angle camera that can be operated from a remote location. The camera often has built in memory allowing the crime to be caught on film making great evidence later. These systems are often the most expensive. Most monitored systems require a monthly fee on top of the cost of the home security systems equipment.

Another choice that is right for some homeowners is the wireless unmonitored home security system. These systems operate like the wireless monitored system without the need for electricity or a phone line. However, with this home security systems equipment the system is not monitored. This can result in a costly delay. These systems are great if the intruder has disconnected the electricity and cut the phone line. They also continue to operate during power outages.

Yet, another choice that is right for some homeowners is the hard-wired monitored system. This system requires electricity or a phone line. Sometimes both are required. The system can be set to alert with a loud alarm or silently alerts the security company or the police. Like the wireless monitored home security system, these systems usually require a monthly fee for the monitoring service. The advantages of these systems are that they alert the authorities immediately while it is easiest to catch the criminal in the act. They are also cheaper than the wireless monitored system.

The least expensive home security system is the hard-wired unmonitored systems. These require the homeowner to enter a code or the alarm will sound. These systems can be connected to a camera that turns itself on when the alarm is sounded. This system is best in areas where someone is home all the time. The system will alert no one of the crime that is happening. They are effective in scaring some criminals. The homeowner is reliant on a friendly neighbor noticing the problem and alerting the police.

The homeowner needs to carefully consider the type of system that is right for them. The four basic types each have their advantages and disadvantages. Carefully weigh your

Installing a Wireless Burglar Alarm System

Wireless burglar alarm systems have a great advantage over the traditional home burglar alarm systems. They are a lot easier to install for someone who is looking to do it themselves. Just think about how much money you are going to save on not having to call in an electrician to be able to do the work for you. It also gives you the freedom to be able to place the sensors anywhere you like without having to worry about running wires everywhere. You will be able to place the sensors on doors and windows with ease and never have to fear about where the wires are going to go. There will be installation instructions included with your system from the manufacturer, so setting up your system is a breeze.

Follow these simple steps and you will be up and running in no time at all:

1. Make the decision on where you are planning to locate the main control panel, as well as the door and window sensors. You also need to consider locations of any smoke or fire sensors that you are planning on using around the home. The location of your main control panel needs to be in a place that is convenient, such as near your front door. You also want to make sure that it is not going to be easily detected by a potential burglar who is peeking through your windows.

Make sure that it is close to an electrical outlet, as well as a telephone line if it is one of the monitored systems. You need to place the door and window sensors in an area that the burglar is going to be likely to try to use as their source of break in. If you are going to use motion sensors, you need to make sure that they are not blocked by any furniture or able to be dodged by the burglar moving around your home.

2. Using screw you need to secure your control panel to the wall. Make sure that you locate the studs with a stud finder to enable the safety and security of your system. Once you have the control panel installed, you are going to need to connect it to an electrical outlet by plugging it in directly or through hard wiring it into your home system.

If you are able to wire it directly, you are going to prevent the possibility of the system being tampered with. However, if the system is plugged in, you should have a battery on back up to prevent any downtime. You may need to have it connected to a telephone line if you are using the monitored system. You simply plug the telephone line into the rear of the control panel for monitoring.

3. Adjust all of your siren lights into an area where they are going to be able to be seen and heard easily, but you don’t want them to be tampered with by a potential burglar coming into your home.

4. Using the keypad, you are going to need to program your control panel following the steps within your manual.

5. Go through your home and install all of your sensors on the windows and doors. Each sensor is going to come equipped with a transmitter that will send the signal to your control panel, so they need to be placed in areas that do not have a lot of electronic equipment. You don’t want to have anything that could potentially interfere with the signals. The sensors can be installed with an adhesive; however, drilling holes and attaching them with a screw may prove to be a much better option for durability. If you purchased a kit that included fire or smoke alarms, you can go ahead and install them the same way as the sensors.

6. Go through and make sure that all of your sensors are programmed to work with your control panel. If your system came equipped with a remote or phone line, you may want to go ahead and program those features at the same time.

7. Test your system to make sure that it is going to signal the alarm if the doors or windows are opened or when someone walks past any of the sensors. Make sure you are familiar with how to disarm the system and you are aware of how to recognize when the batteries are low. Familiarize yourself with all of the features in the manual.

There could either be a continual recording or one that was scheduled to happen based upon certain events happening. It used to be that you would have recordings at 25 frames per second, which years ago seemed tremendously fast. Now, in the world today many people have gone away from the VCR for recording because it is not an effective way to be able to manage all of your footage. The tapes take up a lot of space and they are not able to record as much information as one might like, thus proving them to be an ineffective strategy. If you are looking for a specific event on the tapes, it may take you some time to be able to locate what you are looking for.

What is a Digital Video Recorder?

Digital Video Recorders actually contain a large amount of various software, video storing capabilities and a hard drive to be able to save everything onto one unit. You can utilize either analog or digital recording for the DVR capabilities, since the analog signals will eventually be converted to digital through the recording process. It has become one of the best ways to bring one of the analog CCTV systems into your home, while providing you with all of the benefits of IP video. The main difference is this option is going to save you a lot more money in the end over IP technology.

Benefits of Digital Video Recording

Digital Video Recording is one of the best ways to be able to combine your analog CCTV system into a digital surveillance option. It is one of the least expensive ways to bring security into your home, while providing a large number of benefits.

Remote Monitoring

Over the years the conventional CCTV systems were not always able to send the video signals to multiple monitoring stations, but that is not the way it is now that you can use a Digital Video Recorder. The majority of the DVRs allow you to be able to access your footage from a remote location, provided there is Internet access available. All you need to do is connect your analog cameras through the DVR and you will be able to monitor your videos from anywhere around the world as long as you can find a computer with Internet capabilities. There are even cell phones that can allow you the viewing capabilities that you are looking for.

Digital Storage

Years ago there was only one way to be able to record surveillance footage and that was through VHS tapes. There were a lot of disadvantages to recording on the VHS tapes. They would take up a lot of space around your home. Trying to find anything specific on the tapes would be a long drawn out process that could turn into a virtual nightmare. When you have a DVR, you are able to convert all of the analog footage into digital footage, so you will be able to store a lot more video without having to worry about everything being all cluttered together. It is a lot faster and simpler to be able to sort through all of your past footage.

Video Compression

In order to maximize the amount of video storage that a DVR can provide, they have developed a lot of different compression techniques. Some of the more common forms of compression include: JPEG, MPEG-4 and H.264. When you choose to integrate video compression, you are going to have a reduced file size and thus save yourself a lot of problems with imaging quality.

Secure Connection

The majority of DVRs have the option of offering password protection to make sure that only authorized personnel are going to be able to access the footage from a remote viewing location. You will be able to rest assured knowing that your files are going to be safe for years to come.

All of the aforementioned recording devices are similar in the fact that you can record a program and view it a later time. However, each one of them is going to have their differences and it is those differences that enable people to decide which one is going to work the best for their specific needs. Each one of them will have its own set of advantages and there is always room for the perfect accessory to your home. There are also disadvantages to each one as well and that is the purpose of this article is to make sure that you have all of the proper information beforehand.

DVD Recorder

Pros
• You can record all of your programming on one disc that is seemingly indestructible and will last a lifetime.
• The discs for recording are pretty inexpensive.
• If you choose to use one of the re-writable discs, you will be able to record on it time and time again.
• The DVD quality is absolutely amazing.
• You can easily connect it to your VCR to make a VHS recording or save it to your DVR for a more permanent storage option.

Cons
• If you don’t handle the discs correctly, you may end up damaging them past the point of repair.
• It is imperative that you label each disc correctly for optimal storage.
• There is a limited amount of space on each of the discs.
• If you don’t record on the re-writable discs, it can be expensive in the long run.
• The compatibility between the different types of DVDs is not fully compatible at the moment.

Video Cassette Recorder

Pros
• The technology has been used for over 20 years, so it is virtually impossible to make it completely disappear at this point in time.
• They are very easy to use and operate.
• The blank tapes are very inexpensive to purchase.
• You can reuse the VHS tapes without any complications.
• If you have over 20 years of VHS tapes accumulated, it could be very costly to try to replace those with DVDs.

Cons
• There could be issues with tracking when the tapes are used between different players.
• Picture quality will become degraded after the tapes have been used over and over.
• The technology is definitely outdated, and recording in digital format is not always an option with some of the older VCRs.

Digital Video Recorder

Pros
• All of your recording will be contained within the unit, so there is no need for an external media.
• If there is a sudden situation that arises, a person will be able to pause the program live and be able to return to it after addressing the situation.
• You will not have to buy any DVDs or VHS tapes, so the amount of money you are going to save is virtually endless.
• You will have the options of being able to record programs in high definition.
• The dual tuner models make it more convenient than ever before to be able to record on one channel while you are watching a completely different one.

Cons
• There is a limit to how much hard drive space your system is going to have available to use.
• The hard drive is not meant to be used as a permanent storage option.
• You could end up with the hard drive crashing and as a result everything would be lost.
• There are a lot of DVRs that require you to pay a monthly fee for using their services, so this needs to be addressed beforehand.

Regardless of what method you choose to incorporate into your security system, there are going to be advantages and disadvantages to all of them. It is up to you to go through every possible option and see which one is going to work the best for you in the long run and then pursue getting it hooked up to your security system. You have the power to choose which one will be the most beneficial to your home, so make sure that you choose a god one and that you will have the peace of mind you are looking for in a recording system. Before you know it you will have your new recording device hooked up and running and hours of footage underway. Enjoy your new security device in no time at all.

Before you begin doing any hardware changes it is always recommended that you perform a full system backup just in case anything does not go as planned. Make sure that you have the latest versions of all of the drivers and software that the manufacturer offers. There are even some computers that may require an AGP update for your driver. The following steps are going to help you as long as you are replacing your existing graphics card, however, if you are not, the steps may be a little bit different. Make sure you read all of the instructions from the manufacturer to make sure that you understand everything correctly.

1. Remove any old graphics cards and software. This will help prevent the possibility of any issues with drivers not being compatible. Go into your control panel and then to add or remove programs. Locate any entries for your graphics card and then change/remove them. If there are no apparent entries on your computer, you can right-click with your mouse on my computer and then select the properties option. Click on hardware and then go into the device manager. Double click on the display adapter’s icon and then proceed to right click on your existing graphics card to uninstall it.

2. Change out your graphics card. Once your computer is turned off, disconnect the monitor cable and open up the case. Using an antistatic strap around your wrist you are going to remove the screw that is holding your graphics card in place. Take care when you are removing your old graphics card and then gently insert the new card in its place so that it is seated securely. Use the screw to fasten the card into place and then close the computer case back up.

3. Hook all of your equipment up. Go through and look at the poster that the manufacturer gave you with your graphics card and pay attention to how the inputs and outputs are connected. Most of the cards are going to require a connection to a sound card, so make sure that all of your connections are completed before restarting your computer.

4. Install the required software. Plug your computer back in and proceed to turn it on. Your operating system should be able to detect the presence of a new graphics card and display the wizard for the new hardware.
